Hopes for the Lasting World, The Art of Simon Dinnerstein

Recently I became friends with an important American artist named Simon Dinnerstein. Grounded in an absolute fidelity to the particulars of the real world, his art also explores other worlds made possible though imagination and accessed through works of art, literature, music, even objects that act as talismans of memory.

His work and his personality are both incredibly precise, thoughtful, and intellectually rigorous to the point of obsessiveness. He is also immensely likable.

This spring Simon posted on Facebook about a traveling show of his work, one stop being at a museum in Elmira New York. Nancy and I were vacationing in June at the Finger Lakes and so one day we drove over to the Arnot Museum to check out ”The Lasting World, Simon Dinnerstein and the Fulbright Triptych”.

It took our breath away.
